Fiddle Sermons from the Insurrection Masses with Funeral March for Rotten Ideas
A hallmark of Bread & Puppet's work is its capacity to make politically and aesthetically poignant performances from materials that are immediately available, be it immediately available people as performers, immediately available cardboard, cornstarch and sticks for paper mache puppets, or immediately available cultural forms such as Circus, Pageantry, Parade/Procession, Nativity Play, Passion Play, or in this case -- a Catholic Funeral Mass, reformatted to explore and deplore a "Rotten Idea" that must be funeralized and buried, so as to never plague the world again. The texts contained in this book are "sermons" delivered by B&P director, Peter Schumann, with the help of his fiddle, as part of Insurrection Masses in 1998.
