Uprising of the Beast After the Good Life Fails
This unearthed classic from 1987—a companion piece to a puppet show of the same name—tells the tale of an every man cog-in-the-machine of capitalist society. Executed in eye-catching broad stroked masonite woodcuts, the book depicts a suited gentleman as he passes through the different stages of life encountering a range of existential and societal challenges. The text was executed by single letter rubber stamps, a method Schumann first started using in his art and book works in the early 60s, which adds emphasis to the aesthetic play between typography and image. With intentionally dense interior composition, the book includes two especially first-rate double page spreads.
A very limited number available before the book goes out of print and into the Bread & Puppet archive!
